A Keelboat is a type of craft used by American on their rivers as a cargo-capable working boat. Usually, Keelboat is long, narrow and cigar-shaped riverboat. A keelboat is similar to the other riverboat barges are unpowered and typically propelled. It was steered by a special oar and propelled by oars or poles, pulled by a cordelle, or occasionally fitted with sails. A Keelboat war is usually 40 to 80 feet long, 7 to 8 feet in beam and 2 feet and more in the draft with sharp ends. A cleated footway on each side was used by the pole men.The United States of America has issued this commemorative five cents with the theme of a keelboat in the year 2004. The obverse of this coin depicts a side of Keelboat. The reverse of this depicts a portrait of President Thomas Jefferson facing towards left.
