Fath Ali Shah of the Qajar dynasty

Fath Ali Shah Qajar - the second Shah to rule the Qajar dynasty was born today on 5th September 1772.Fath Ali was born in Damghan to Hossein Qoli Khan Qajar, brother of Agha Mohammad Khan. He was also known as Baba Khan, which he would use until his coronation in 1797. His 37 years of reign saw the Russian Empire following the Russo-Persian Wars of 1804–13 and 1826–28 and the resulting treaties of Gulistan and Turkmenchay.
The above shown gold 5 Toman was issued under his reign from Dar al Sultanate Tabriz mint. The obverse of a coin depicted the legend ‘al-sultan ibn al-sultan Fateh Ali Shah Qajar’ in four lines on the floral field; all within ornate floral circular border. On the other hand, the reverse of a coin engraved the legend ‘Zarb dar al-sultanat tabriz sanat 1226’ in five lines on the floral field; all within ornate floral circular border.
