Adolf Hitler, the leader of Nazi Germany from 1934 to 1945 was born on 20th April in 1889.

At the outbreak of World War I, Hitler served in the German army. Later he rose to power in German politics as leader of the National Socialist German Workers Party, also known as the Nazi Party. Hitler was chancellor of Germany from 1933 to 1945 and served as dictator from 1934 to 1945. As dictator of Nazi Germany, he initiated World War II in Europe with the invasion of Poland in September 1939 and was a central figure of the Holocaust.

The Führer of the Reich is depicted on many German stamps. A 1944 Greater German Reich stamp of 42 Pfennig depicts Adolf Hitler. Hitler’s 50th birth anniversary was celebrated on 12+38 Pfennig stamp issued on 13th April 1939.

On 30th January 1941 a 12+38 pfennig stamp of Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini was issued with the legend in German reading “German and Italian brothers-in-arms”. Another 50 cent stamp from Italy shows the two Fascist leaders together. A 1941 5 cent stamp from Libya also shows Mussolini and Hitler together.

A 12+38 Pfennig stamp issued in 1940 to celebrate the 51st birth anniversary of Führer depicts an unusual portrait of the Dictator; it depicts Hitler interacting cheerfully with a child.
