Shukla Day Fair to Exhibit Bharat Ratna and Shivaji Coronation Coins

2016-04-20 Wed

It’s a lifetime opportunity for every Indian to take a glimpse at the “Bharat Ratna” medal, India’s highest civilian award! Apart from that, you could also take a close look at gold and silver coins that were awarded to Shivaji Maharaj during his coronation ceremony. Both of these rare collectables will be exhibited at the 25th Shukla Day exhibition from 22nd -24th April at the World Trade Center.

Shukla Day marks the birth anniversary of S. M. Shukla, the curator of the Prince of Wales Museum and one of the top numismatists of Mumbai. On this day, an annual fair of coins, banknotes and stamps is conducted.

"This Bharat Ratna was conferred upon former PM Gulzarilal Nanda. His grandson has loaned it to us for the show. No museum in Mumbai has the Bharat Ratna on display,'' said organiser Malcolm Todywalla.

"Nearly 800 hons were struck and showered upon the head of the Chhatrapati during his coronation. A number of varieties exist, showing that they must have been continued as regular currency. Hons are very rare to find. One remains in the collection of Prince of Wales museum and another is with the National Museum in New Delhi,'' Malcolm said.

Apart from the exhibits, many rare and precious coins will be on sale.

Mintage World is proud to be associated with this highly anticipated event as the associate sponsor.
