One gift that Duke Albrecht von Wallenstein gave his supporters when he was engaged in the Battle of Lützen in 1632 and 1633, was a gold coin or medal featuring his image. It will be hosted at the Sincona Ag’s May 18th to 20th auction. They could be gold medals by Hans Rieger or one of the multiple ducats. These coins never had a denomination value to them, but were simply gifted to meritorious supporters.
The obverse shows the portrait of Duke Albrecht von Wallenstein, and his title Duke of Mecklenburg, Friedland and Sagan, Lord of Wenden.
On the reverse reads ‘Count of Schwerin, Ruler of Rostock and Stargard’ along with his shield of arms.
The 1630 gold 10-ducat medal or coin amounted to great wealth in those days and hence were very rare. Apart from that, these coins carried great political significance.
The coin is valued at 100,000 Swiss francs.
