International Beer Day
2019-08-02 Fri
Celebrated on First Friday of the month of August, International Beer Day is a day to celebrate one of the oldest and the most favorite drinks in the world. This widely consumed drink is brewed from cereal grains such as malted barley, wheat, maize and sometimes rice.Beer has a reputation as the drink of choice for the ordinary working man or woman. Whether it is served as cold and frothy or strong and slightly warm, Beer has captured the world’s fancy. Hence, to celebrate the popularity of this drink, this day has been founded in Santa Cruz, California by Jesse Avshalomov in 2007.
International Beer Day began as a celebration at the founders’ local bar, but has since expanded to become a worldwide event with three main purposes:
- To gather with friends and enjoy the taste of beer.
- To celebrate those responsible for brewing and serving beer.
- To unite the world under the banner of beer, by celebrating the beers of all nations together on a single day.
A number of Postage Stamps were issued to celebrate this day. The above stamp is 0.90 Marka stamp issued to celebrate the 140th anniversary of Banjalucka brewery, one of the oldest Beer brewery in Bosnia. The stamp depicts two goblets of frothy, goldenish beer one from the modern era and the old era.
