Tatya Tope also known as Ram Chandra Pandurang was an Indian leader in India’s First war of Independence in 1857 and one of its notable generals.

In 1851, when Nana Sahib was derived of his father's pension, Tatya Tope became a sworn enemy of the British. Tatya Tope tried to fight the British from Gwalior and after losing Gwalior to the British he came to Rajputana and joined forces with Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi. However, he was defeated by at Ranod and at Sikar. He was later executed by the British Government at Shivpuri on 18 April 1859.

The government of India is going to release new commemorative coins to commemorate the 200th birth anniversary of Great leader Tatya Tope soon. The Denomination of coins will be an issue of Rupees 200 and Rupees 10.
In 1984 a 50 Paise commemorative stamp was issued by the Government of India to honour this brave Indian Rebel.
