Muhammad Yusuf Shah was the Sultan of Kashmir was the ruler of Kashmir Sultanate, he ruled Kashmir Sultanate from 1579 CE till 1586 CE. All the rulers of Kashmir Sultanate had tried to maintain peace, prosperity, and harmony.In the medieval period, during the 14th century, the Islamic religion was increasing drastically in Kashmir. This was probably because of Muslim adventurer name Shah Mir came to Kashmir from Swat. He was appointed at the post of minister in the court of Hindu king in Kashmir. Later, after the death Hindu King, the minister Shah Mir married to the widow of Hindu King and sat on the throne of Kashmir Sultanate with the title Shams-ud-Din in the year 1339 CE.
Muhammad Yusuf Shah was the Sultan of Kashmir. During the reign, he issued gold, silver and copper coins from Kashmir mint. The denominations are Mohur, Sasnu, and Kaserah.
This silver square Sasnu was issued by Muhammad Yusuf Shah from the mint Kashmir in the Hijri year 987. The obverse a coin depicts the Persian legend ‘Nasir al-din Muhammad Yusuf Badshah Gazi’ while the reverse depicts the mint name and date ‘Zarb Kashmir Sanah 987’.
