Highlights at Kelleher Postage Stamp Auction
2019-05-08 Wed
Daniel F. Kelleher Auctions is going to offer several interesting postage stamps and other philatelic items from 21st to 23rd May. One of the highlights is an unused 6¢ stamp of the U.S. in dull rose colour featuring Abraham Lincoln. The stamp was issued in 1875 and belongs to a set of stamps which was specially printed by the Continental Bank Note Co. 35 such stamps have been certified, and less than 1/3rd out of them are in sound condition with complete perforations, like the one offered at the auction. The stamp is without gum and the perforations have been cut with scissors as usual. It has a listed market value of $18,000, but it’s difficult to evaluate the stamps accurately. It is being offered at an opening bid of $7,500.Other interesting stamps offered at the auction include a $1 black stamp issued in 1903 featuring David G. Farragut in never-hinged condition, graded superb 98, and a centerline block of four imperforate 2¢ black stamps featuring Warren G. Harding in never-hinged condition graded gem 100.
