The twenty-second Maharaja of Mysore state, Krishna Raja Wadiyar III died today on 27th March 1868. He is well known for his contribution and patronage for different art and music. According to historians, he is the cultural founder of the Morden Mysore state. Krishanaraja III ruled under the supremacy of British, he reigned around seventy years.
The above-shown gold pagoda is issued during of Krishnaraja Wadiyar III around AH 1225-1285, 1810-1868 AD. The obverse of the coin depicts the divine couple Lord Shiva and his consort Goddess Parvati in seated form. The reverse of the coin illustrated a three line Nagari legend covering the whole flan, it reads rulers name ‘Sri Krishna Raja’.
