2019-03-23 Sat

Located in the suburb of Shamshabad, the official opening of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport took place on 23rd March 2008. It replaced the Begumpet Airport as Hyderabad’s main international airport.

Named after the former Prime Minister of India, Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, RGIA is considered as the 6th busiest airport in terms of passenger traffic in India. It served about 18.2 million passengers in fiscal year 207-18.

The airport serves as a hub for Air India Regional, Blue Dart Aviation, SpiceJet, Lufthansa Cargo, Quikjet Cargo, and TruJet, and as a focus city for IndiGo and Air India. In 2018 a special 5 Rupee postal stamp has issued to dedicate the 10th anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
