Beautiful Toned 1927-S Peace Auctioned

2017-05-31 Wed

The 21st Regency Auction by Legend Rare Coin Auctions was conducted on 18th May in New Orleans. A 1793 Flowing Hair, Wreath, Lettered Edge cent graded MS 64 brown with a green CAC sticker was sold for $293,750. Apart from that, toned Morgan dollars and Peace dollars stole the limelight. A 1927-S Peace dollar, PCGS MS-65 CAC was sold for $15,275.

Toned Peace Dollars are rarer than toned Morgan dollars. Toned Peace Dollars generally show light shades of salmon pink, dusky grey and yellow-green. The surfaces of the coin offered at the auction are absolutely clean and they feature extremely attractive toning, unlike the ones that are generally found in the market. The coin sold for almost double the amount of a similarly graded example that was sold at an auction earlier this year.
