2016 marks the 100th year of the composition of the Ukrainian Christmas Folk Song, Shchedryk. Known as ‘Carol of Bells’ in English, the song was composed in 1916 by the Ukrainian composer and conductor, Mykola Leontrovych, and the Kyiv University Choir. The country marked this occasion by issuing two commemorative coins. One coin is made of Nickel-Silver with a value of UAH 5 which is approximately US ¢20 while the other is made of silver with a value of UAH 20 which is approximately US $1.The traditional festive 'Shchedryk' songs are some of the most popular tunes in the world and have been featured in many TV shows and movies such as Harry Potter, Home Alone, and South Park.
