Gold Varaha of Chalukyas of Badami

The Chalukya dynasty ruled large parts of southern and central India between the 6th and the 12th centuries.In 543, Pulakeshin I founded the Chalukya dynasty and established Vatapi (present-day Badami in the district of Bagalkot, Karnataka) as his capital. The descendants of Pulaleshin I are called "Chalukyas of Badami".
The Chalukyas of Badami issued this extremely rare uninscribed gold 'Varaha' weighing 3.81g.
The Obverse features Boar facing to the right, sun and moon above, floral scroll below and the reverse features Trident or Trishula flanked by Sankha and Chakra on either side and a pair of fly-whisks (Chauri) below.
