On This Day in 1962, the Bhakra Nangal Dam, a multipurpose river valley project was dedicated to the nation by the then Indian Prime Minister - Jawaharlal Nehru.Also known as the 'New Temple Resurgent of India', Bhakra Nangal Dam is a concrete gravity dam built on river Satluj. The Dam is located near the Gorge over the submerged village of Bhakra and forms the Gobind Sagar Reservoir.
India Post issued a definitive postage stamp in 1967, on the 2nd Largest Dam in the nation, which was once regarded as a major tourist destination.
