Captain Robert Falcon Scott was a Royal Navy officer and explorer; he led two expeditions to the Antarctic region. One was the Discovery expedition (1901-1904) and, the other was the ill-fated Terra Nova expedition (1910-1913). He was the first British explorer to reach the South Pole and explore Antarctica extensively by land in the early 1900s.
The idea of exploring the Antarctic around the Ross Sea came to the mind of Sir James Clark Ross in 1841. Robert Falcon Scott wanted to do his research on animals, weather, and geology of the Antarctic. He also with Dr. Edward Wilson collected embryos of emperor penguins so that he could study the birds more closely.
