John Tyler was the 10th president of the United States of America between 1841 and 1845. He had also served the United States as Vice-President in 1841. He was the 1st Vice President to become a President instead of a ‘Vice-President acting President ‘after the death of President William Henry Harrison in 1841.
In 1861, when the civil war was about to start in America, he chaired a peace conference in Washington D.C, to preserve the Union; later, when civil war broke out in the same year, he voted in favour of Virginia seceding from the United States. He was elected to the Confederate House of Representatives, but before he could take his seat, Tyler died at age 71 on January 18, 1862, in Richmond, the capital of the Confederacy.
