Identifying the Rupee: For the Visually Challenged

The Indian rupee notes have certain special features added on to them to aid the visually challenged to identify the banknotes.

There is an identification mark on the left of the watermark window. The different shapes are printed for various denominations like:

Rs. 10 : none,

Rs.20: vertical rectangle,

50: square,

100: triangle,

500: circle,

1,000: diamond.

Also the higher denomination notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 have Angular Bleed lines on them on both the right and left side on the obverse.

INR 500: 5 lines,

INR 1000: 6 lines.

This helps the visually impaired to identify the denomination.
