Born on 15th April 1469, Guru Nanak founded Sikhism and was the first of the ten Sikh Gurus. He traveled extensively to teach about the concept of one God who resides in all his creations. His ideas were based on equality, fraternal love, goodness, and virtue. Guru Nanak's words are turned into 974 poetic hymns in the Guru Granth Sahib which is the holy text of Sikhism.
To celebrate the 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Nepal jointly issued a set of three commemorative coins to honor the holiest man of the Sikh faith. The commemorative coins bear denominations such as Rs 100, Rs 1000, and Rs 2500.
Launched on 27th September 2019, the coins depict the national emblem of Nepal on the obverse along with the name of the country and the issuing Authority. The reverse of the coin depicts the inscription commemorating the occasion along with the denomination and the years “1469 and 2019” at the bottom.
