The Bengal Presidency is also known as the Presidency of Fort William and later Bengal Province was a subdivision of the British Empire in India. It was a colonial region of British India; today Bengal Presidency is split into Bangladesh as well as the following states of India. Today, the area which falls under India are Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh as well as the part of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra.

During British rule, Bengal was an economic, cultural, and educational hub in India. During the Proto-Industrialization period, Bengal Presidency contributed directly contributed to the Industrial Revolution in Britain. Later, it overtakes the Kingdom of Mysore, ruled by Tipu Sultan as South Asia’s dominant economical power.
