2015-12-10 Thu

Being largest species of the world, whales are at the top of the food chain. Whale is the most common name for this widely distributed and diverse group of aquatic species. There exists at least 40 species of whales, many of which, however, are on the verge of extinct.

British Antarctic Territory has made an attempt to create awareness among the masses not only to gain knowledge about these species but also to spread the thought of protecting these Giants of the Ocean.

British Antarctic Territory issued a set of six stamps featuring six different species of whales; which includes Sperm Whale, Killer Whale, Southern Bottlenose Whale, Antarctic Minke Whale, Humpback Whale, and Blue Whale. Having a common denomination of 66 pence these stamps depict images of whales in their natural habitat.
