Ratlam was a Princely State during the British rule in India. Today it is located in the northwest of Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Princely State Ratlam was founded by Ratan Singh in the year 1652 CE. The royal lineage of Ratlam state belongs to the ruling family of Rathore Rajputs of Jodhpur. In the early period, Ratlam became premier of Rajput state in the western region of Malwa. This state saw the dominions of Mughals and Marathas and later came under the protection of the British and became a part of Central Agency.
This Copper paisa of Ratlam was issued by Raja Ranjit Singh during his reign. The obverse of his coin depicts dragger and the name of the state ‘Ratlam’ in Gujarati. The reverse of this coin is inscribed with the date 1928 CE with the flower motif below.
