King Carloman II died today

Carloman II was the king of West Francia reigning from 879 until his death on 12th December, 884.

Carloman was born in 866 to King Louis the Stammerer and Queen Ansgarde. He and his elder brother, Louis III, divided the kingdom between themselves and ruled jointly. On Louis’s death (882) Carloman became sole ruler. He died while hunting on 12th December 884 and was succeeded on the throne by his cousin, the Emperor Charles the Fat.

The above shown Denarius was issued in the name of Carloman II. The obverse of a coin depicts the cross and legend + HCARLEMANVS R., On the other hand, the reverse of a coin engraved monogram and inscription + CIVIS AVTISSIDR.
