Slovakia, officially the Slovak Republic, is a landlocked country in Central Europe. The capital and largest city is Bratislava and the official language is Slovak. Slovakia was a part of the sovereign state of Czechoslovakia until its dissolution into Czech Republic and Slovakia in 1993. Slovakia is a high-income advanced economy with a very high Human Development Index, and a very high standard of living.The koruna was the currency of the Slovak Republic from 1939 to 1945 and from 1993 to 2008 until Euro became the official currency in 2009. The note depicted besides is a 50 Korun banknote issued in 1993. The note specifications are as follows:
Obverse: shows artistically merged portraits of St. Cyril and St. Method, the first Slav missionaries, to right. The reverse portrays two hands, with the first seven letters of the old Slavonic alphabet "Hlaholika" (Glagolica) between them, as a symbol of the gift the two saints brought to the ancient Slavs. The symmetrically reversed silhouette of the medieval church at Drazovce (District of Nitra) symbolizes the dawn of Christianity in Slovakia. This blue note has a portrait of Saint Cyril as the watermark.
