The First Day of Diwali
2019-10-25 Fri
Diwali starts with the worship of cows. The 12th day of Krishna Paksha of the month of Ashwin is celebrated as Govatsa Dwadashi or Vasubaras or Nandini Vrat. This year Vasu Baras falls on Friday, 25 October. Majorly observed by people of Maharashtra, this day is dedicated to the worship of Cows. The start of this festival is related to the very famous legend of ‘Samundra Manthan‘. It is believed that when gods and demons were churning the ocean for nectar, a cow called Kamadhenu emerged out of the ocean. This divine cow, which lives in heaven, was presented to the seven sages by the Gods, and in course of time came into the possession of Sage Vasishta.
It is believed that on the day of Vasu Baras, there is an emission of strong positive vibes from the cow in the form of Vishnu. Therefore, those who worship cows can absorb these frequencies and take the boon given by Vishnu.
Kamadhenu denotes purity, non-erotic fertility, sacrifice and motherly nature which add sustenance of human life. The cow is the ultimate goddess of followers of Sanatan Dharma and is considered to impart powerful blessings. If worshiped, respected and loved, she has the capacity to grant all wishes and desires of the owner.
In the year 1974, India Post celebrated 19th International Dairy Congress with the release of a special commemorative stamp with the denomination of 25 Paise. The stamp depicts a rare type of handprinted Rajasthan cloth with the images of cows on it.
