2019-10-10 Thu
Royal Canadian Mint has recently issued a very uniquely designed coin. This coin was specially designed for the Royal Canadian Mint by an artist from Vancouver Island namely Andy Everson. This first feather-shaped coin the Royal Canadian Mint has ever minted has a special connection to the area. The artist Andy Everson comes from the area of Comox Valley in BC. With this coin, the artist has showcased his culture and heritage.
The feather coin has an engraved side profile view of an eagle head, presented in the Northwest Coast form line style. Framed by the coin’s feather-shaped contour, the eagle’s eye and downward-curving beak are surrounded by variations of split-U forms that recreate the eagle’s facial features and feathers.
The reverse also inspired the background pattern seen on the flip side, which features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Susanna Blunt. The coin comes with a denomination of 20 dollars. The coin comes in silver or gold.
