On 25th September Robert A Siegel conducted an auction of Postal history. At this sale, the auction offered Pony Express covers and more from the George Kramer collection plus the Clovis collection of Confederate States illustrated covers. The highlight of the auction was the celebrated and unique ‘Patriotic Pony’ cover to Europe- one of the iconic items of American Postal history.

The cover is addressed to Mr. H. Hauschildt at Elmshon in Schleswig-Holstein. This cover was carried on the Pony Express trip departing San Francisco on Saturday, September 27. It is one of the six Pony Express covers to destinations outside the United States and the only patriotic cover in the group.
