Ocean in View Nickel Coin
2019-10-01 Tue
The United States of America had issued this commemorative coin with the theme of Ocean in View in the year 2005.The reverse of this coin depicts the view of the Pacific Ocean, the goal to which Lewis and Clark reached after a hard journey. Their expedition had proved that Missouri River was not a part of Northwest Passage across the continent. They also proved that there are two mountains ranges to cross instead of one. Later this his continent can be crossed with the help of telegraph and railroad which brought eastern and western coast together which was very hard to imagine at the time of Lewis and Clark time. Today in the world if cars, airplanes, telephones, and computer this distance seems very shorter. The first step of Lewis and Clark had made this possible to bring them close together.
The obverse of this coin depicts the bust of President Thomas Jefferson facing towards right and the word liberty written in his handwriting. The reverse of this coin depicts the Pacific Ocean and inscription OCEAN IN VIEW! O! THE JOY!
