India Post has issued a miniature sheet consisting of two stamps commemorating the 12th anniversary of Aero India international show in 2019. Aero India is the premier airshow in Asia since its inception in 1966. It had eleven successful editions and has established itself as a marquee event in the international Aerospace calendar.It is aligned with the Make in India initiative and by adding it recent edition which has successfully attracted foreign and private investments in the sector. This show provided a unique opportunity for the aviation industry to showcase its capability. This show was able to captive the audience attending with it aerobatic performance and provide a glimpse into rapid advancement of technologies in aviation, defence and aerospace. The logo for Aero India 2019 was inspired by the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA).
The stamps not only celebrate the success of Aero India but also mark the involvement of women in aviation. These stamps are commemorating the role model of our time to promote careers in military services, air traffic control, hospitality in the aviation industry and to develop the interested of women in this sector.
According to the 2019 analysis, there are around 1561 women officers in the Army, 1594 in the IAF and 644 in the Navy. India is also a product to have a high portion of women commercial pilots at 12% of the total number. To celebrate this proud milestone of Indian defence services the 12th Aero India shown held on 23rd February 2019 was dedicated to ‘Women in Aviation’.
