On 9th August, John J. Pittman’s 50-year ANA membership 1993 gold medal was sold for $2,115 at an ANA auction by Stack’s Bowers Galleries. The price of gold saw steady gains in summer but declined gradually because of the US elections. Even then, collectors love collecting rare and unusual coins.
Established in 1891, the ANA is the world’s largest coin hobby organization with almost 25,000 members. Award and membership medals like the one which was auctioned are generally preserved by the family of the recipient which is why they are very rare to be spotted in the market. The obverse of the 11.9 grams medal has the ANA’s lamp of knowledge logo and a personal signature inscribed on the reverse.
