On 27th October, the Government of the British Virgin Islands announced fake coins are being offered online by a producer in Russia. The seller is also offering these fake coins on eBay.
One of the fake coins features two swans, a hedgehog, three dolphins, a lion, two tigers, two meerkats, or an orang-utan from Novosibirsk Zoo. Another coloured one features the Russian Sibir Hockey Club along with the logos of the team. The obverses replicate the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
Officials have announced that these coins have never been issued by the Government of the British Virgin Islands and immediate action would be taken against the ones who are involved in minting and distributing these coins.
All officially released legal tender coins would be hosted on www.pobjoy.com
